To many journaling seems like a way to simply record your day, but the effects journaling has on your mind and spirit are far greater than that.
Journaling Creates Intentional Moments of Thought – When writing, your mind is forced to focus on the one task at hand. There is nothing to distract you from what you are thinking. Your thoughts, as you write them down, are intentional and even five minutes of intentional focus can declutter your mind.
It Relieves Stress and Anxiety – Journaling creates a safe space for you to release your anxiety. It is a private moment for yourself where you can share your feelings on a piece of paper. Even doodling on a page will give you and outlet to dispel your stress and anxiety. While you write you are slowing down your heart rate and breathing and lowering your blood pressure, which brings you back to a centered and more focused state.
Journaling Sparks Creativity and Self Reflection – Through both intentional thought and release of anxiety and stress, you create a space of calmness and clear consciousness. When you can clearly and intentionally focus on your thoughts, it is natural that one will begin to self-reflect. This can seem very scary and intimidating to someone who is not familiar with the act of self-reflection and is perhaps the reason why many shy away from journaling.
