MFRFMA Aids Military During COVID-19 Pandemic
The Military Family Relief Fund Mid Atlantic (MFRF-MA) began the support operations for the Maryland National Guard and other military operational elements deployed in support of the COVID-19 Emergency. Our team delivered morale support items to the mobilized elements across Maryland.
Three MFRF-MA Board Members set out on a 795-mile two-day vehicle trip in support of soldiers, airmen and coast guard personnel at 12 locations across the State of Maryland to execute this delivery.
Day One, Thursday, April 9th
Board members used their own truck and MFRF-MA support trailer to pick-up members and supplies. The journey first took them to Ruhl Armory where they delivered Morale supplies such as potato chips, peanut butter crackers, pretzels, Goetz candies and Mary Sue Easter eggs. Afterward the next stop was at the LTG Fretterd Military Reservation where there were three separate deliveries for the Army Operations Center, the Medical group and the Main Armory.
Most MWR morale snack deliveries included the following standard sized drop consisting of: Four cartons of potato chips with 84 bags per carton or overall 336 bags, Six cartons of pretzels with 36 bags per carton or overall 216 bags, Two cartons of peanut butter cheese crackers with 105 packs per carton or 210 individual packs, One package of Mary Sue Easter Eggs, and One package of Goetz candies.
Next they traveled to the Easton Armory where we made a standard morale drop, then a stop at the Salisbury Armory where we made a double standard drop anticipating heavier demand and one less distant trip to that location. The last stop of the day took them to Ocean City, Maryland for an overnight for a delivery and early pick-up early the next day.
Day Two, Friday, April 10
The first delivery was the Ocean City Coast Guard yard where we made a standard morale drop. Also, while in Ocean City, we picked up 1,500 bags of Fishers Popcorn as a COVID-19 Morale donation. Friday’s windy weather created treacherous conditions on the Bay Bridge that mandated a diversion from the planned delivery at FEDEX Field as high winds on the Chesapeake Bay Bridge diverted the scheduled drop to send them around the Chesapeake Bay to Havre De Grace where we made two separate standard sized deliveries: one drop at the Havre De Grace Armory and another at the United States Property and Fiscal Office (USPFO). The fourth and final stop was the Aberdeen Proving Ground, Edgewood Area at the Aviation Armory with a standard Morale drop.
